A contract to carry out pre-construction preparatory work at the site of Belarus's first nuclear power plant at Ostrovets has been signed by the country's Nuclear Station Construction Directorate and Russian primary contractor Atomstroyexport.

According to Belarus national news agency BelTA, a general contract for the construction of the Russian-designed 1200 MWe AES-2006 unit is due to be signed in June 2012 and discussions on production and delivery of long lead-time components are underway.
