Initiatives of the Russian Federation aimed at development of an international system of safe operation of nuclear facilities were supported by the G8 Summit being held in Deauville.

The nuclear safety issues were discussed at the first meeting of heads of state-members of G8 on May 26. Rosatom deputy director general Nikolay Spasskiy told journalists in Deauville that proposals Russia had announced received a “significant support.”

He clarified that, in the first place, these initiatives were supported by France, with the USA having “a rather close position.
