March 6, Istanbul - ROSATOM and its project company JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR organized a round table called "Russian experience in nuclear energy" within the framework of the 5th International Nuclear Power Plant Summit (INPPS-2018) in Istanbul (Turkey).
The round table program included reports by representatives of ROSATOM and AKKUYU NUCLEAR, as well as representatives of the business communities of Finland and Hungary, where ROSATOM is implementing projects for the construction of a modern nuclear power plant based on 3+ Gen VVER-1200 reactors, referent to those to be constructed in Turkey.
Alexander Voronkov, director of Rosatom Middle East and North Africa told the participants of the round table about ROSATOM’s history, modern cutting-edge solutions and technologies, as well as the largest projects implemented in the international market and in the region, in particular. The speaker stressed the historical nature of the relationship between Russia and the countries of MENA region in the area of the peaceful use of nuclear energy and noted a wide range of potential areas of cooperation: from nuclear fuel cycle projects and personnel training to NPP implementation and non-energy projects (such as nuclear desalination, nuclear medicine, irradiation technologies, etc.).
Evgeny Kozlov, director of the Akkuyu NPP at Rusatom Energy International JSC in his speech presented the current status of Akkuyu NPP project, the licensing process and issuance of permits. The speaker highlighted the active development of the project in 2017 - early 2018, adding that obtaining a construction license is expected as early as in March 2018.
 Konstantin Ryzhak, Managing Director of JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR spoke about the positive effect of the project on the economy of Turkey in general and its economic impact on Mersin province, where the first Turkish nuclear power plant is being built. According to him, there has been a steady increase in electricity consumption by 1-20 GW per year during the last decade in Turkey. According to forecasts, this growth will continue in the future. In turn, the diversification of energy carriers through the commissioning of the NPP will ensure the energy security of the country and will have a significant economic and environmental effect. Mersin Province, at the same time, will be provided with a new infrastructure, new jobs and new business opportunities.

Vladimir Chudin, Equipment Director of JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR and Kurshad Tosun, Director for Licensing and GR presented to the audience the opportunity to participate in the Akkuyu NPP project for potential suppliers as well as plans for procurement of equipment and procurement procedures applied in JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR.
Representatives of business sector from Hungary and Finland addressed the session of ROSATOM as well: Leena Yulha, Managing Director at FinNuclear Ltd. devoted her speech to the experience of Finnish suppliers when working with ROSATOM on the construction of Hanhikivi-1 NPP. In his turn, Pal Kovacs, the representative of the Hungarian Government spoke about the socio-economic effects from the construction of NPPs for the region through the example of Paks NPP.

For the fifth time INPPS gathered in Istanbul leading representatives of the nuclear industry, among them are the leading Turkish companies of the nuclear industry of the country, the national regulator and the relevant authorities. The Summit is the largest industry platform for dialogue of companies working in the field of nuclear energy. This year ROSATOM and JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR became its main partners. The companies are also taking part in the exhibition of the Forum.
