A new branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University “MSU Sarov” September 1, 2021 opened its doors in Sarov (Nizhniy Novgorod Region).
President of RAS Aleksandr Sergeev, Director General of ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev, Director of Branch “MSU Sarov” Vladimir Voevodin, top managers of ROSATOM and Russian Federal Nuclear Center -  All-Russia Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF, part of ROSATOM), where the branch has been created, took part in the ceremony. Rector of MSU Viktor Sadovnichiy addressed students on-line.
The ceremony included Russia’s flag raising by Scientific Supervisor of the Federal Nuclear Center Vyacheslav Soloviev and master’s student of MSU Sarov Anastasiya Lobanova. The Academic Chorus of the Nizhniy Novgorod State University which sang the anthem of Russia was the jewel of the ceremony.

In his welcoming address Alexey Likhachev pointed out: “MSU Sarov is created as an educational base of the National Center of Physics and Mathematics. Today is the very beginning, the starting point. The full-fledged research infrastructure will develop in front of your eyes, the campus will grow. This place will become the point of attraction for scientists from the country and the world.”
“My understanding of the key task is that the graduates would find an interesting job here in Sarov, in the research center (NCPM) which will develop nearby the university,” ROSATOM’s Director General said.

In the framework of the marathon organized by the Russian Association “Znanie” Alexey Likhachev delivered a lecture as an interactive discussion with plug-ins from Pevek, Turkey, Bangladesh, the Great Britain and France. He told students about basic and new competences and technologies of the future. High-profile foreign experts – William Magwood, Director-General of Nuclear Energy Agency of OECD, and Bernard Bigot, Director General of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) construction project – joined the event on-line.
In the end of the day, President of RAS Aleksandr Sergeev addressed master’s students of MSU Sarov with the lecture “Extreme light fields”.

MSU Sarov is created as one of key elements of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics with powerful experimental and computing base, unique laboratories and mega-class installations. Its goal is to produce new scientific results of the world class, train of highly qualified scientists, and bring up new scientific leaders. The work of RFNC-VNIIEF to create NCPM, which founders are ROSATOM, Russian Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, Lomonosov MSU, NRC Kurchatov Institute, has been started by the instruction of President Vladimir Putin dated November 28, 2020. The creation of the center, as well as the Branch of MSU in RFNC-VNIIEF, under the project “Big Sarov” is included in the Year of Science program of measures.
