On February 15, 2019 a delegation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD/NEA) visited Russia. It was headed by the Agency’s Director General William Magwood IV. 

During the visit a framework agreement was signed on the Joint Initiative of OECD/NEA on nuclear education and staff training (NEST). From the Russian party the document was signed by Deputy Director General for International Relations Nikolai Spasskiy. The agreement is aimed at developing professional skills of students, post graduates and young specialists who deal with science and technology in the field of atomic energy through transfer of theoretical knowledge and practical courses.

 A substantial exchange of opinions on the entire range of interaction with OECD/NEA, including implementation of joint initiatives on nuclear safety, was carried out with participation of Rostechnadzor’s head Aleksei Ferapontov.   

The delegation of OECD/NEA visited the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI where William Magwood and Rector of NRNU MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Internship Program of Students in the Agency.   

The visit of the OECD/NEA delegation was another step of strengthening the cooperation between the Russian Federation and this international organization.
