October 19, 2021, Antalya, Turkey. – On October 13-15, the 14th Energy is Future (EIF 2021) International Energy Congress and Expo was held in Antalya with support from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC acted as the main partner of the event, which this year brought together key representatives of Turkey's energy industry as well as leading players in the energy sector from 52 countries of the world.
Regional Vice President and Director of Rosatom Middle East and North Africa Regional Office Alexander Voronkov took part in the opening ceremony attended by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Fatih Dönmez. “Among indicators of a successful energy system is its balanced state and inclusion of various types of generation, which help reduce market volatility and create conditions for a sustainable recovery of economies during the post-period,” Voronkov noted. “The energy system where nuclear power, being a stable and reliable source of generation, provides the base load, allows addressing this demand. At the same time, an NPP is not only a source of clean electricity but also a major infrastructure project that lays the foundation for the country's technological development. And the project of Turkey's first NPP – Akkuyu – is a good example of that. Thanks to the constant support from our Turkish colleagues, the project, through joint effort, is gradually turning into the largest nuclear construction project in the world; after commissioning, the power units of Akkuyu NPP will annually generate tens of billions of kilowatt-hours of reliable and clean electricity, which will feed the Turkish economy and contribute to the achievement of national sustainable development goals on Turkey.”

Representatives of Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC took part in the business program of the congress. In particular, Alexander Voronkov made a presentation at the panel discussion on Evolution of Energy in the World, where he spoke about the current challenges in the energy sector and the ways to overcome them as proposed by Rosatom and based on low-carbon nuclear energy solutions. In his speech, he also dwelt upon Rosatom's innovative products offered in the foreign market, in particular, on the Russian Generation 3+ VVER technology and its references in the world, and low-power reactor technologies. Furthermore, he shared information on implementation of the company's wind energy and hydrogen business.

A separate panel discussion was dedicated to nuclear energy. The discussion was moderated by President of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Agency (TENMAK) Professor Abdulkadir Balikçi. Among participants of the discussion were Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Sama Bilbao y León, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) Ibrahim Halil Dere, Project Management Specialist of the Turkish State Electricity Generation Company EÜAŞ Ahmet Ege. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Director for Construction and Production Organization Denis Sezemin made a presentation at the discussion. He gave a detailed account of the current status of the Akkuyu NPP construction project and touched upon the issues of localizing the manufacture of equipment and materials for the needs of the project: "The Russian party and the Turkish party are making considerable efforts to increase the project’s localization level. For this purpose an extended Localization Working Group was created. Among the members of the Group there are representatives of management teams of the Project's key participants: the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, JV TİTAN-2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ (the main contractor), and the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE). The activities of the Working Group resulted in preparing a catalog of localized products, which is being updated regularly, and currently contains 718 items. The project's total localization potential is USD 5.9 billion.”

Throughout all the days of the exhibition, the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC booth was functioning, where congress participants and visitors could obtain information on the Akkuyu NPP project implementation status and communicate with the company’s representatives.
