A roundtable discussion entiteld “Responsible Approach to the Environment and Natural Resources” will be held as part of the ATOMEXPO 2019 International Forum in Sochi on April 15.
Participants in the roundtable will discuss the environmental criteria that affect the choice of power generation type, the environmental aspects of transitioning to a closed nuclear fuel cycle and issues of involving civil society in the dialogue on the environmental safety of nuclear facilities. A case study of Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation will be used to consider the approaches and main results of environmental protection measures currently being implemented.     
Participants in the roundtable will include, Director of the Nuclear Security Research Institute (KNPS-NUSERI) Il SOON Hwang (South Korea); President and Energy and Environmental Consultant at Environics Environmental Consulting Salah Hafez(Egypt); Director of the School of Ecology and Geography at Siberian Federal University Ruslan Sharafutdinov; Advisor to CEO and Environmental Policy Implementation Coordinator at Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation Vladimir Grachev; Senior Manager of the Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation Spent Nuclear Fuel Management Project Office Anzhelika Khaperskaya; President of Aube district council (France) and Head of local information commission Philippe Pichery; and Head of Operations at the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (ANDRA) Patrice Torres. The discussion will be moderated by Head of the Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning Division at the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Rebecca Tadesse and International Cooperation Director at Électricité de France Dr. Michel Pierrachini.  
The roundtable will be held at 9am in the Orange Hall of the Main Media Center.

The main topic for this year’s Forum is “Nuclear for better life.” For the first time in the history of the Forum, the business programme has been compiled by the International Programme Committee, which is made up of: Director-General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency William Magwood, Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Agneta Rising, former Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators Jacques Régaldo and former Director-General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Luis E. Echávarri, among others. ATOMEXPO 2019 participants (heads of state structures, major companies and public organizations, as well as international experts) will discuss global issues in the development of carbon-free energy, a responsible approach to the environment and natural resources, green investments and international partnerships for sustainable development. The exhibition area will take up over 13,000 square metres. 
The 10th anniversary ATOMEXPO Forum in 2018 attracted over 4000 delegates and guests from 68 countries (compared to 65 countries in 2017 and 55 countries in 2016). The exhibition took place on a total area of 20,000 square metres (compared to 12,000 square metres in 2017). Over 600 companies took part in the event. A total of 39 agreements and other documents on cooperation and partnership, including commercial contracts, were signed on the side-lines of ATOMEXPO 2018.
