On October 26, 2021, the Transfighter vessel with shipload cargo for Kudankulam NPP that is under construction in Tamil Nadu State (Republic of India) left St. Petersburg for the port of Tuticorin in India.
According to Alexander Kvasha, First Deputy Director for Projects in India - Technical Director of JSC ASE, “this batch of equipment for the second and third stages of Kudankulam NPP construction is unique due to several reasons. Firstly, it set the wheels in motion for the process of equipment delivery for power units 5 & 6; secondly, it is ensured by a coordinated effort of JSC ASE and Rusatom Cargo. Logistics company belonging to ROSATOM management scope was involved pursuant to a request of Indian partners as stipulated by the provisions of equipment supply contracts. Such work is an excellent example of the client-focused approach of ROSATOM.
The following long-lead equipment for power units 3 & 4 was uploaded on the vessel at the ports of Hamburg (Germany) and St. Petersburg (Russia): reactor separating bellows, additional passive emergency core flooding system tanks, heat exchange equipment and ventilation equipment. The shipload cargo also includes various equipment to ensure simultaneous installation and construction works at the power units. The vessel carries the following equipment for units 5 & 6 to be installed during construction works: rod penetrations, embedded parts therefor and sealed doors. The overall cargo weight exceeds 9500 m3.
For reference:
Power units No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 are the second and the third stages of Kudankulam NPP constructed under AES-92 design with VVER-1000 (V-412) reactor type. The technical solutions implemented in Kudankulam design characterize further evolutionary development of NPPs with VVER-reactors of high power and transition to creation of a new, reliable, safe and feasible power unit.
New power units of Kudankulam NPP comply with the most up-to-date safety requirements of IAEA. The developer - the technical customer of the facility - is Nuclear Power Corporation of India. The general designer and supplier of equipment is JSC ASE.
