On September 9, Alexey Likhachev, the Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, has paid a working visit to the construction site of the Belarusian NPP Unit 2 (Rosatom engineering division is the general designer and the general contractor of the project) was held.

During the visit, Alexey Likhachev witnessed the progress of the most important stage of the start-up and commissioning work - the “hot” trials of the reactor, assessed the readiness of the start-up facilities. He also held a working meeting with the participation of the Customer (PMM “Belarusian NPP”) and the general contractor, where the sides discussed current issues in the implementation of the Belarusian NPP Unit 2 construction project.

“As of today, the unit is 87% ready, and we are on track to complete the construction of the second power unit. As in the construction of Unit 1, we are increasing cooperation and the efficiency of joint work of Russian and Belorussian specialists,” Aleksey Likhachev said summing up the visit results.

“Soon, the process of reactor “hot” testing will be completed. Its main goal is to confirm the readiness of the equipment and systems of the power unit for the physical start-up stage, which is scheduled for this year,” he concluded.

The Belarusian NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built in Ostrovets (the Republic of Belarus). The Russian Generation III + project was chosen for the first nuclear power plant in Belarus. It fully complies with international safety standards and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
