On November, 13, Rusatom Healthcare (ROSATOM industry integrator in the field of radiation technologies in medicine and industry) Director General Aleksandr Shibanov, president of the region Apulia  (Republic of Italy) Michele Emiliano, representatives of Sechenov University (Moscow) and Bari University, as well as JSC Isotope signed a memorandum of understanding in order to develop and strengthen cooperation in the field of healthcare, therapeutic radiology in oncology and nuclear medicine in the Russian Federation and the Apulia region.
The memorandum should be the starting point of cooperation between the ROSATOM and the Italian region of Apulia in the field of cooperation in such fields as R&D, nuclear medicine, and professional staff training. The competencies accumulated by the parties, the production capacities of Rosatom enterprises, the active development of new technologies and the modernization of previous technologies present great opportunities for mutually beneficial and successful cooperation in the future.
The parties discussed in more detail the development of cooperation and formed a plan of further steps for 2020.
«Historically, Russian scientists have always possessed know-how in the production of radioisotopes, — said Apulia president Emiliano, — Now isotope products are actively used in industry, scientific experiments and medicine. The memorandum that we signed with Sechenov University, the University of Bari and the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation in the future can facilitate an efficient exchange of experience in the healthcare sector of Apulia and Russia. We hope, that this agreement will also be able to bring technological innovations in the diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases, concluded Michele Emiliano.
It’s useful to note, that the ROSATOM previously cooperated with Italy in the field of the use of stable isotopes for experimental purposes, but this memorandum was the first in the field of nuclear medicine.
