Rosatom representatives participated in the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Symposium, which was held online September 8-10.
The WNA Symposium is one of the main annual events of the global nuclear industry, which traditionally brings together key players to discuss the current agenda and plans for the future. Due to coronavirus restrictions, the symposium has been held online for the second year in a row. Rosatom was as a gold sponsor of the event.
Guests of the symposium were able to familiarize themselves with the activities of Rosatom at a virtual stand, where company’s projects, including high and low power NPPs, nuclear science and technology centers, as well as the Atoms for Humanity communication project, among others, were presented.
Rosatom speakers took active part in the symposium. Alexander Boytsov, advisor to the first deputy general director of TENEX (Rosatom company exporting enriched uranium and other services of uranium enrichment), under whose co-chairmanship the Nuclear Fuel Report was prepared by the WNA, spoke about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the commercial activities of key market players in a panel dedicated to the presentation of the report.
Anton Moskvin, Vice President for Marketing and Business Development at Rusatom Overseas, took part in a panel session dedicated to small modular reactors (SMR) together with representatives of such companies as GE Hitachi, Terrestrial Energy, NuScale Power, Rolls-Royce and Westinghouse, where he called for the soonest international harmonization of SMRs licensing led by the IAEA.
Vadim Titov, President of Rusatom International Network (Rosatom company promoting its goods and services on global markets), took part in a panel session on communications, where he spoke about the latest Rosatom projects aimed at delivering key messages about the importance of nuclear technologies for achieving sustainable development goals to new audiences.
On the final day of the symposium, Polina Lion, Rosatom Chief Sustainability Officer, spoke at the panel session dedicated to the contribution of nuclear energy to achieving sustainable development goals and combating climate change, recalling that the fulfillment of global obligations on decarbonization by 2040 was impossible without nuclear energy.
The cross-cutting theme of the symposium was the climate agenda, the importance of recognizing nuclear energy as green and sustainable at the international level, the need for state support for promising nuclear technologies and the need to continue working to increase the public acceptance of the peaceful atom.
