On December 7th of 2021 in Moscow, Deputy Director General for International Cooperation of ROSATOM Mr. Nikolay Spasskiy had a meeting with Minister of Finance and National Debt of Nicaragua, Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Russian-Nicaraguan Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation Mr. Ivа?n Acosta, Special Representative of the President of Nicaragua for Relations with the Russian Federation Mr. Laureano Ortega and Representative of the President of Nicaragua Mr. Rafael Ortega.
Mr. Nikolay Spasskiy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation Mrs. Alba Azucena Torres signed the Memorandum of Understanding between ROSATOM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua on cooperation in the field of use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The Memorandum is the first document in the sphere of peaceful uses of nuclear energy between Russia and Nicaragua. The document sets forth a basis for the development of cooperation in a wide range of areas, in particular, raising public awareness about nuclear technologies, the development of nuclear infrastructure of the Republic of Nicaragua, non-energy applications of nuclear energy in industry, agriculture and medicine.
As soon as the pandemic situation allows, the parties will organize in-person consultations on the implementation of the signed Memorandum.
