In April 2019, TENEX together with JSC “SSC RIAR” and FSUE “PA “Mayak” won the tender for the “Development of Technologies for Retrieving Fuel Debris and Internal Structures (Development for Dust Collection System of Fuel Debris)” project which consists of research works on development of a system to collect the dust generated during the processing of fuel debris from the damaged units of Fukushima Daiichi NPP.

The project is performed by the funds from Japanese government as The Subsidy Program and managed by Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (MRI, Japan). Within the framework of the project meant to be completed in two years, the ROSATOM’s organisations will carry out a series of experiments on cutting the samples of nuclear fuel and model samples of fuel-bearing materials to study the properties of the emerging dust. The results of the project will be used in the development of the safety system for works on extraction of melted fuel fragments as part of accident recovery works at Fukushima Daiichi NPP.
