Russia and Tajikistan have signed a protocol on the transfer of project documentation for the "remediation of areas affected by uranium mining".
Gardullozoda Sadullo, Tajikistan's deputy minister of industry and new technologies, said "elimination" of the country's nuclear legacy is a matter of national importance, "because it concerns our children's health and environmental safety for generations to come".
Andrey Golin, general director of Russia's Federal Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, said the protocol marked the "start of a new phase" in the countries' joint efforts to implement the remediation program.
